I will have a fourteen hour layover in ICN at the end of the month and was thinking about venturing out in the city for several hours...

Is the subway ideal? I will only have a backpack with me and I just want to do a little sightseeing in the downtown area and probably grab a nice lunch.

I land at 0530 and depart at 1920 on a Thursday, which means I will more likely get stuck in rush hour traffic both ways. So, if the metro is not as convenient as it is in the states [everybody was recommending taxis or limo bus, which gives me the impression that the rail is not exactly ideal] then I will just stay in the airport...
