All medallions are eligible for upgrades on paid tickets. Gold and up are eligible with miles and miles+cash. However, these routes are very difficult to upgrade on.
They will only allow upgrades at the gate for a complimentary upgrade. I am fortunate that my company pays for J across the atlantic through to LAX... but I have asked about the upgrades incase my bosses become less generous in the future.
