several people here on this board keep traveling on one RTW after the other. The cost of positioning to the starting point becomes less important in that case, but not starting at an out of the way airport is more important. I found NRT and ICN both fairly inexpensive in the past (not sure if this is still true now) and also easy to get to/from because for most flights between the US and Asia you need to connect there anyway.
