If he is going to fly AC, he gets one of those nifty pink "fast-track" customs passes. I've had 2+ hour waits to clear customs in LHR after flying CO. The trip to Canada is worth it for that alone, IMO.

Adding a connection in Canada will surely add more than 2 hours to the journey. And 2 hour waits for immigration at LHR are probably unusual. So this just makes zero sense to me.
That said, it's pretty awful that CO doesn't provide fast track immigration at LHR to BF pax. I would usually take VS instead when I used to fly to London for business.
