avidflyer! Full Y on KE as well as M on DL will be more than discount J (BizSaver, fare class Z) on KE.
For example 07/11-07/20 LAX-ICN:
discount Biz $3467-3850, flexible Y $4669.
This Y has sense ONLY if you really need flexibility, but even then the fee for date change of discout ticket ($150) would be less than a difference in fares.
There is coach fare class (K) upgradable using KE miles, which is significantly cheaper (for these dates $1850-2280). If you have 60-90K KE miles (60K for coach-to-business upgrade between US and Korea during low season), you can go this way
