The FIS facility at DTW is huge, has oodles of capacity and is generally pretty efficient.

1:20 is a legal connection and you should be fine.

If you're uncomfortable, go with the longer connection. DTW is a very nice airport and spending two additional hours there won't hurt.

I assume you'd be arriving on 243 12:50, connecting with 844 at 1:58.

While I'm uncertain as to whether DTW has a diplomat line, I've traveled into the airport many, many times sandwiched between several Asian arrivals. As a US citizen, I've never waited more than 15 minutes. Thus, I'd be comfortable with the connection (which will be on the A concourse and easily accessible).

That said, I don't see Delta.com selling 243->844, so maybe 1:05 isn't a legal connection.
