Historically, I've seen low fare buckets readily available on Saturday afternoons. This doesn't necessarily speak to F availability, but emptier trains usually mean better chances of an upgrade.
If it were me, I wouldn't worry about a F sellout if you're traveling on a non-holiday weekend. Whenever I've upgraded an offpeak Acela, F has been less than half-full.
