Between Air Asia and Garuda, I much prefer Air Asia, even sometimes their price is slightly higher than Garuda's (ironic, isn't it?)
Air Asia has made ticket buying and checking in a lot easier. You can't even pay for a ticket using credit card on Garuda site -- providing it works properly, which it doesn't, most of the time.

Personally, on any route that I had a choice between Air Asia, Garuda, and Lion Air, and at reasonably comparable prices and schedules, Air Asia would be my first choice by a mile, with Lion bringing up the rear.
