I have about 150,000 Alaska Miles. My son is going to Paris next year with band, over spring break. Last week in March, First week in April. I am thinking of taking the family and tagging along. Wondering about best way to utilize those miles to get there. I see I can go a combo of AA and Delta and it is 40,000 miles plus $120. in taxes and fees. Any way to avoid those? There is really no way to avoid the taxes and fees as they are assessed by the respective governments of the countries you are flying to/from. There were times when less taxes were assessed to those flying out of YVR (Vancouver, BC), but that is no longer the case.
Have you looked at award availability for your dates? If you haven't, be aware that the "low" awards may not be available and that you can't have an award ticket with both AA and DL segments and that DL awards require 60,000 miles per ticket.
