If you're a US citizen in the US and have time, you might want to consider getting Global Entry which will avoid long lines when exiting the customs hall in ATL. Unfortunately, at that point, security can consume time too.
Have you tried asking DL to reschedule you without charge to a longer connection? I think an hour and a half is right at the minimum for international to domestic in ATL.
