This has been my experience before. I thought I was supposed to collect my bags and recheck them, but they did some sort of magic behind the scenes, and my bags were transfered.

My concern this time is that my transfer will be from a transpacific F flight to a very short Y flight. The two separate baggage allowances are obviously very different, and I don't want to get hit with hundreds of dollars in overages.
