And I always buy the cheapest rock-bottom fare available since all my travel is leisure and on my own dime. I think the reporter does have a point that upgrades are harder to come by on AS than on some other carriers. As a MVP Gold this year I've only been upgraded on 2 of 6 flights (LAX and LAS to SEA). I moved most of my travel to AA this year so don't have many more data points. I've seen a number of ads from Delta recently that call out their greater number of F seats and better upgrade chances for their FF members.
A lot of my flying is on routes where F is 100% sold at the MVPG window. Despite that, I am well over 50% lifetime, and nearer to 90% on some routes.

I also don't particularly feel a sense of entitlement to a cabin I didn't pay to be in.
