50% isn't a real high upgrade percentage. What level are you in AS MVP? As a EXP on AA I'd be unhappy with a 50% upgrade percentage. Heck, even as a Plat in AA I had much better rates than 50%. And I always buy the cheapest rock-bottom fare available since all my travel is leisure and on my own dime. I think the reporter does have a point that upgrades are harder to come by on AS than on some other carriers. As a MVP Gold this year I've only been upgraded on 2 of 6 flights (LAX and LAS to SEA). I moved most of my travel to AA this year so don't have many more data points. I've seen a number of ads from Delta recently that call out their greater number of F seats and better upgrade chances for their FF members.
