Applied for 1500/75k visa personal and 4000/75k amex personal on the 8th. Today I received both cards. Called to activate the visa and everything went fine, Hung up and called back to activate the amex, was immediately connected to a representative. The rep activated the card and then I asked her to confirm the 4000/75K on the card. She said it was removed from my account by citi since I already owned a visa platinum. I just said thanks and hung up. Called back right now after making a purchase on the card and asked the rep to confirm bonus. She confirmed yes, its on there and I will receive my miles after 4k in 6 months. I am so confused now, do I have them or not? I certainly am not calling back a third time to make them aware of this. Was the first rep correct or the second? I would hate to spend 4k on the card and not get my bonus. Anyone have this happen?
The 2nd rep is wrong. You will get your bonus as long as you have a PHYSICAL card in hand and fulfill the spend requirement. This is unique with Citi - they guard the gate for issuing bonus at the level of card approval, versus Chase could give you the card but deny you bonus for various reasons.
Matter of fact if you apply through the links on this thread and get the card, there is no need to verify bonus for the bonus code is enbedded in the url you click through.
However since most applicants here are new to this and being nervous they always want to hear the confirmation from the CSRs.
Personally I like automatic activation and avoid to talk to CSRs as much as possible for not only they have to read you a whole script but also often try to sell stuff like ID monitoring... It is annoying and waste of time.
