Did an op-up save us an SWU?

I *think* I know what happened, but will pose the question anyway. The scenario: we (both 1Ks) were booked on a W fare, with SWUs deposited for possible upgrade to C. Weeks passed, still waitlisted & a day before the flight the seat map showed Y & C full, but some seats open in F. I mentioned to Ms BH that, based on my previous readings of FT, there might be a possibility of musical chairs if Y was oversold. Get to the gate , asked the agent if we had a chance, answer was “not a chance”. So we boarded & were getting settled in our exit row seats (picked on booking for “better” leg room). But then an agent appeared, said we’re moving you up & handed us new boarding passes in C. Actually, they were single seats, but a passenger travelling alone graciously agreed to swap, so we wound up sitting together. Now for the question: today, our accounts show 1 SWU “earned”, thus appearing that we were beneficiaries of an op-up that trumped “spending” the SWU for the outbound flight. Is this correct?
