A few things and I'm sorry to hear about your experience. First, the OW desk probably could not change your seat assignment (was your original seat choice changed). The GA must do that. Most GA will try to accomodate you unless the flight is full. Second, all Y food sucks. UA tried a decent BOB a few years back on Transatlantic flights and paxs objected, they would rather have free swill.

Reading FT you soon learn there are good and bad apples across the industry. The one FA that allowed you to change seats and checked up on you is one of the good ones. For the most part, I see AA employees trying their best in what is often a dysfunctional system with management only concerned about saving a dime here or there.
