Question Interlining Baggage - Swiss to Virgin Atlantic?

Hi, this is my first post on the Swiss forums.

This Summer we will be moving on from an expat post in Singapore to a new posting in Zug (nearest international airport is ZRH).

However, at the end of August I have to travel to our house in the US and I've already purchased a ticket to fly from LHR - EWR (Newark) with Virgin Atlantic; we are originally from the UK and will be breaking my outbound journey to see family in London before flying to Switzerland.

I have a Singapore Airlines Krisflyer Gold Elite Star Alliance card (but unlikely to fly SQ for the forseeable future) which allows me access to the Virgin Clubhouses and Star Alliance lounges - and I guess, Swiss lounges too, even if I fly economy class?

A few weeks ago I flew with British Airways from Zurich to LHR and had a flight a few hours later to Newark with Virgin. BA at ZRH wouldn't interline my baggage, so I had to collect it (2 suitcases!) and take it from T5 to T3 and re-check it.

I know that Virgin isn't in Star Alliance (although 49% owned by Singapore Airlines). Does anyone know if my baggage is likely to be interlined by Swiss? I need to buy an air ticket from ZRH-LHR and trying to choose between BA or Swiss with cost and convenience being the deciding factor. Thank you! PS: as we are moving I'm likely to have large suitcases up to the max weight allowed (eligible to take 2 cases as Star Alliance gold).
