You'll never sit near me, because you'll decline the upgrade. I also avoid flying SA to the extent that I can, opting to go through Europe on carriers that have first class cabins. Of course, first class is no better than steerage, because all that matters is "to get there." LOL!!!!

SAAUSA, it's a
very good idea to sell upgrades at the gate. From an operations standpoint, one can see how it's easier to do this at IAD vs. JNB, but monetizing empty seats up front is a quick and easy way to bump up the revenue side, especially for seats that would otherwise go out empty.
