Right off the bat.. I would suggest if you have suite upgrades, you can upgrade from Fairmont category room to a Signature Casita Suite.. very nice indeed..
I booked a lower than rate of the day with Visa Infinite Concierge.. So rate of the day in the summer is $256 per night retail for Fairmont Category room..
So got a lower rate, free breakfast, free valet parking, room upgrade upon availability, $25 dining cert, VIP status.. and get this shhhh.. but for some reason they slipped in 3 nights complimentary too (this might be a mistake).. I don't where that came from?.. So definitely book Visa Luxury Hotel Collection through Visa Infinite Concierge..

I personally have not tried the Visa Concierge. I've had excellent success to date, booking through the FPC phone line and participating in the CDN Amex program. My congrats to Mrs. Maestro - please tell her the water is more than fine.
However, it's entirely possible that the upgrade fairy has smiled upon me so often because of our short stays??? With the exception of BSH and CLL (New Years, busy, busy, I get it), all of the properties have been super generous (with or without certs). I adore Fairmont hotels, and am very much looking forward to experiencing the Mayakoba. Good luck to you, I hope it all works out fabulously for you.
PS If you happen to spot the primo beach area, beach front or signature casita room numbers, Mrs. P would be forever grateful if you would forward the magic number..
