August trip from BHM or possibly HSV to ARN, preferably through ATL. (easier to get home if stuck overnight in ATL) Advice on finding least expensive flts on DL, since it's on my dime? Of course, comfort and building miles is important. I might spring for economy comfort if it's worth it. Routing through ATL-JFK-ARN and ATL-AMS-ARN seem to be most abundant, but some of flts through AMS show 55 min layovers...is that adequate? If it matters, I'll be traveling with a non-medallion companion. Other tips...it's my first trip to Sweden and first trip over the pond, in a long time? Thank you!
I've had many hundred of flights from the US to ARN via AMS. My scheduled connections in the same range as your mentioned 55 minutes has always been sufficient as long as the flight left the US pretty much on time or at least with a delay of less than 30 minutes. [But when the delay has been 30 minutes, there have been times -- depending mostly on the time of year but sometimes on other factors -- where I've had to sprint between the flights.]

The problem with transfers at AMS to ARN is that KL has an awful tendency to put the AMS-ARN flights at the far end of the pier closest to the large KL Schengen-side lounge. Still, I've managed to even get a shower in at that Schengen-side KL lounge during 55-minute connections at AMS. So it's readily do-able.
