Have eUpgrades destroyed the domestic op-up

I only tend to fly one route regularly, and unfortunately its a transcon where the SE/E density is high. A lot of the times flights are full/oversold, but in almost all instances there is the gate announcement that: "for those on the exec standby list the cabin is now full".

As an SE i have not had a problem getting upgraded if I dish out the eupgrade credits, but on the other hand, i've never been op-uped. It makes me wonder if the the new currency of upgrading is flexible enough to create more demand for upgrades on domestic routes, which previously would not have deserved a red cert, thus destroying the unwritten op up benefit that SE/E previously enjoyed.

I wondered if people flying other domestic routes have had similar experiences or if this just relates to my route.
