Reading about tourism at the destination is interesting, but let's remember this is a board primarily occupied by frequent fliers. For many of us, the flight is as important a part of the trip as the destination. Heck, we should count the lounges at the airport as part of the "destination".</font>
I couldn't agree more. As my primary interest is in aircraft and inflight service, that's what I come to Trip Reports to read about and that is generally what I will report upon from my travels.
I've always understood that this site was designed as a forum for frequent flyers to discuss issues related to flying frequently as opposed to travelling somewhere which would tend to be more about what you did on your weekend in Paris or Barstow than how the flight was getting there. I notice there is also a Trip Reports forum under Travels (Not Miles as we're now in) that would seem better suited to this type of reporting.
Now, before some of you go and get all up in arms over that last statement, I'm not complaining about people writing about their land based adventures and posting them in the Miles Trip Reports. Indeed I've enjoyed reading more than a few of these accounts and it seems simpler to have all trip reports in just one area. But then, one could also argue that for those who love to read about what so and so did on their travels through Namibia or Seattle, it would be alot easier for them to just go to the Trip Reports section of Travels and that would be primarily all they'd find. Either way, I'm not saying this is the way it oughta be - I'm just throwing it out there as food for thought.
But, for those of you who say you have little or no interest in details intrinsic to the actual flight, just consider that the majority of the people posting in Miles Trip Reports seem to interpret this section as a place to highlight primarily their flight experiences. I've always figured as much as so many of us fly, it's only natural that we'd have an interest in some of the differences in service provided by the world's leading (or stumbling) airlines. Witness the very favorable responses to some of the more detailed flight reporters out there. Some of us just love to fly and it shows in our postings and responses here in Miles Trip Reports.
Thanks for all the responses, everyone. It's been most interesting. Already, on my forthcoming Trip Report involving First Class on British Airways LAX-LHR-SIN-MEL I've already included a complete inventory of the amenity kit (Due to public demand - I have no real personal interest in any of that stuff.) and, again, due to public demand, I've also listed which runway we took off from in LAX (Only because the Captain mentioned it in his pre-flight briefings.)
