I didnt have any expectations of upgrades, not at all. I only had an expectation of getting a Hyatt Regency quality of room. The property website does state that the rate I chose was not in the tower, it says it is located on "the garden ground level". What they hide is the parking lot part of it, as there was no garden involved in my room.
They attach what appears to be a tower room picture to the garden room description, which is misleading in and of itself, if I am not mistaken.

They also toss this questionable nugget marketing for good measure on the same link above:
"or just have a quiet moment enjoying the panoramic views of the surrounding gardens and coastal area."
or the parking lot lol
Any discount I got (which btw was a Hyatt promo, I didnt pull some wierd 3rd party coupon out of my pocket) should have no bearing on the base quality of the room I stayed in.
I dont disagree at all with much of what you say. Many people have written great reviews of the rooms and the Red Marlin.
My main point was watch out for the parking lot rooms in the bay 2 building because they really arent 1) in a garden but a parking lot and 2) up to any kind of quality at least I expected at a Hyatt Regency.
I think this is honest and fair criticism of something the management of this place 1) hides (the parking lot) 2) doesnt address (the poor room quality)
I know I am a nobody, status wise, in the Hyatt program. I didnt expect elite treatment.
Thanks for your insights and taking the time to respond.
