That may be one factor, but it's not all. A big factor is a chance to have one stop service from a major Indian city to major U.S. city in and even second tier city in Europe makes it more attractive and almost unbeatable by when compared with Indian carriers. That's why, Indian carriers need to start non stop service to major U.S. cities from its Indian hub(s). Providing the capacity in a growing market is not just in India, but all of south Asia, in my opinion, is more significant. At times it was the only airline serving the area. Its cargo division has benefited immensely from the U.S. involvement in Iraq.

Don't forget the lucrative duty-free shopping in Dubai, especially Gold. All Asians, not just South Asians, invest in gold, jewellery as well as bullion. Economic growth in Dubai also brought not so well paid workers not just from South Asia, but also highly paid workers from the U.S. and Europe. Food options in airport is much better for South Asians in Dubai, than in LHR, CDG, AMS, FRA or any other airport. The airline also benefits from extravagance of the Govt. and a true picture of its profits might not be available due to hidden Govt subsidies. None of the airlines in South Asia, measured up to the resources, service and management of Emirates.
