Yes, I would say she got lucky before.
I will also admit that the whole thing is a bit silly, but not for a reason you may suspect.

I think that she should be able to wear her "ring." It is just an inanimate object. What should be illegal are the actions taken with inanimate objects. My Glock is right beside me as I type and it has not once jumped up off my desk and attempted to shoot someone.
