"You Can Be Arrested for Wearing an Awesome Ring to the Airport"

Full story here.

Unfortunately for writer Tatiana Johnson, wearing a Shepard Fairey ring to the airport earned her a charge of criminal possession of a weapon and a one-way ticket to jail. We can see why the police might have done a double-take, as the three-finger construction of the ring vaguely resembles brass knuckles and the bomb-like shape of the decoration can raise an eyebrow in this day and age (even though it does say "the war is over"), so a few questions are understandable. Being sent to the pokey? Not so much. Check out the details of Tatiana's awful adventure below, and remember to leave all your vaguely pointy jewelry at home next time you're headed to the airport.
What I don't understand is if she offered to throw away the offending piece of jewelry (to the TSA employee), why did they call the cops and why was she subsequently arrested? She tried to comply, even though she'd flown with this same ring in the past, and for trying to just comply, she was arrested? I truly don't get it. We've heard from the alleged TSA employees that they've let people return guns, knives, etc. back to their vehicles or the like if it's "accidentally" brought to the checkpoint in some instances, but arresting someone who offered to toss it to begin with??? Wow.
