PRAGUE - A court in the Czech Republic has banned a nationwide transport strike planned for Monday.

The one-day strike had been called by transport unions to protest reforms proposed by the government.

The unions announced Friday that public transport networks in Prague and other major cities would be halted at 3 a.m. (0100 GMT) Monday. All trains across the country were also supposed to grind to a halt.

But Prague's municipal court ruled Saturday the strike would be illegal because any strike has to be announced three working days before it takes place. Labor unions said they plan to decide Sunday if they will go ahead with the strike anyway.
