Many limeņos try to avoid the downtown area completely and consider it extremely dangerous, even during the day. Most of it is rundown and unpleasant, hardly the sort of place for a tourist to stroll around. The neighborhoods of Miraflores and San Isidro are much more pleasant and locals consider them safe.
