Hosts comp based on play, so how are they doing a good job or a bad job at it? Not much here about "morally" believing in anything. Incentive to try harder to do what? Comping based on the casino formula?
Don't know what the big picture here is either.

If I want my doctor to "do a good job at it" and I appreciate him, should I tip?
wow you are something else dude. i can at very least see where you're trying to come from. you on the other hand, i don't think you have a clue as to what i'm talking about. i know this is a forum for people looking to get the most out of their money, but sometimes you have to give a little in life. (especially when you're always taking)

#1 - when i have a dentist appointment, i actually do bring in some coffee/tea for his office, and maybe some donuts. i usually don't have to wait very long to see him, the office assistants are happy, i get service with a smile, sometimes they throw me a discount for the work i've gotten done, and most importantly, he does a good job with my teeth. do i tip because i know i would get these things? no, i got them the 1st time i visited the office. i appreciate them "being good" at their job, because i know not every dentists' office gives this type of service. maybe this type of service means nothing to you. i like it when my host is happy to see me, meets me when i finish gambling, walks me right through the line at the club in the hotel, tells me to have a great time, comps me a bottle & table service, and then says, tell me where you and your friends want to eat tomorrow, dinner is on me.

#2 - the big picture is that you're building a relationship with a host. yes, they comp based on play, but a good relationship goes a long way. hosts do have the ability to do things for you outside of comps based on play. what's the difference in a host taking care of 2 different clients if their your play is the same? "ohh, remember mr so&so sent me my fav. bottle of hennessy for the holidays..." sure you don't HAVE to tip, but if a guy is going above and beyond for you, you should realize you have something good, and try your best to make sure it stays that way. you're probably thinking you SHOULD get that service anywhere you go, but you know that isn't the case in reality.

#3 - i work in the service related position where it is very uncommon to tip/gift. i don't leave a tip jar out or ever ask. i try to treat people the same and as fair as possible. i'll tell you what though. i have a couple of clients that always remember me during x-mas and when they have extra tickets to sporting events & shows. guess who i'm always the happiest to see come around, never give a hard time to, make sure the work i do for them is 110%, and who never has to wait to see me?

#4 - 3544quebec, a good salary is very relative. you know which hosts are relatively more successful than their peers? the ones who have clients that take care of them. (if all other factors were the same, such as # of clients, and if clients had the same play) if hosts never received tips/gifts, what incentive do they have to give you good service, try harder to get you comps. if your play is simply that stellar than you're earning comp points hand over fist, yea, you don't have to tip, and can be the biggest a$$hole you want, but i have the feeling most people on this board are trying to get an idea of how to get the most comps with spending the least amount of $. YMMV, but the small $50 bottle of liquor might pay for itself very easily.

hey, completely up to you if you want to tip or not amicus, but don't knock me if i like good service, want the most out of my $, and have found a way to achieve it. just sharing my experience at the casino (as well as any service).

oh yea, at V/P, you observed hosts giving gifts TO casino players. was that casino player you?
