Awards aren't upgrades (other than that weird thing with fancy credit cards where awards can be upgraded).

It is cleared documented on http://www.united.com/page/article/1,,53694,00.html what the redemption levels for domestic flights are (quoted round trip):

25,000 miles saver / 50,000 miles standard United Economy
50,000 miles saver / 100,000 miles standard United Business
70,000 miles saver / 140,000 miles standard United First

If you used miles at the new redemption levels, I'd request a refund of 10,000 miles since you got seated in United Business.
Check the miles you used for your F seat on the 757 and the miles required for the J seat on the 777. You will likely find that they are the same. F seats on a 3-cabin are generally substantially more. It's true that you didn't get an UG, but it's also likely true that you were seated in the cabin for which you "paid."
