Not so for my AMS to US less than 7 days ago. It was primary
screening for all gate passengers, unless your child totally wigged out
(my youngest did, so I did an unrequested opt out of sorts).

*edited to add gate distinction, since we'd cleared security for an EU flight to AMS
without incident.
