I fully support that. Although I have to say that the quality was better in the past (as everything was better when we were young.. :-)
Using Thinkpads now since +10 years.
Depending on your travel pattern and if you have a dockingstation with a large monitor in your office I would go for either
X220 or T420s/T410s (<- that's my choice at the moment - and the "s" in the name is the important bit). I would go for an X - but I have to work with that laptop without an external monitor most of the time and the screen on an X model is really to small here.
