I was at LGW last night, flying to Edinburgh. Wasn't aware of the fun and games going on with the Jersey flight.

And it is a great airport: my gold card was swallowed by the check in machine. I asked a BA person to assist, who jokingly started hitting the machine. He then called over a colleague who had the key to open the device up (didn't admit that it was my company that is responsible for the design ). Once he had retrieved the card he offered to walk me to a check in desk but I decided to try another one and it worked OK.

We were then joined by their supervisor - I am guessing - who asked if everything was alright and whether her colleagues were helpful, which of course they were. They then wished me a good flight and asked if I knew where the lounge was. Me, with my reputation?

Through security in about 2 minutes and in the Flounge 2 minutes later. Usual selection of food and drink, not as extensive as Heathrow, but perfectly acceptable.

Gate 55F was a cattle market due to a "very full" flight. Never understood the difference between full and very full when it comes to aircraft... Anyroadup, golds and silvers were called to board first and the unwashed had to part like the Red Sea to let us on. Not sure if the gate team were being that diligent with checking, as it seemed as though half the passengers were boarding first.

Departed a few minutes late due, landed a few minutes late, but nothing compared to the same flight a couple of weeks ago, when it was 2 hours late, and certainly better than the poor saps on South West trains last night who were stranded for 5 hours.

In summary, I like Gatwick when it works. Just don't go there during school holidays.
