Blair, I agree with SallyL about the food being good and inexpensive. It was certainly so when I visited both countries during a five week trip in Oct-Nov of 1998 and, now, the exchange rates are even more favorable toward US dollars. My hotels (not quite up to Westin standards but very good nonetheless) all offered excellent breakfast buffets and, in a few places, I had dinner at my hotel and was very impressed not only at the quality of the food and service but the excellent value received. In fact, I enjoyed the food everywhere I went in Australia (love barramundi!) and New Zealand (best lamb I've ever eaten), plus the wines were excellent. Such memories ...
