a few more details on my stay.
we stayed for 8 nights May 29-June6 as a Plat. It was a mix of paid, points and C&P nights. had a very strange experience with C&P and upgrde to beachfront room. After literally spending a full hour at the front desk, they finally found us a suite, but midway through our stay. We checked it out and decided to stay in our pool/oceanview room. The suite was ridiculously far from parking and the pool (at the very farthest reach of the resort, more than a 5min walk - with snorkel gear/fins, no so fun). Also, it was pretty tired and while it was a 2 bedroom, the 2nd bedroom didn' have any windows and was like a dungeon. I can't believe someone would actually pay money for it! Also, no bathroom downstairs (it was split-level).
The rest of resort was ok, but nothing special. The ridiculou $40 resort fee didn't get you anything substantial except free parking (which should be free anyway) and sloooowwww internet (both wired and wireless). There were lots of activities for kids (including movies at night), but nothing for adults - not even happy hour specials at the bar (well, there was yoga at 8am, but i don't get up at 8 on vacation). the resort was clean and well-maintained, although the rooms were a little tired.
Housekeeping was sloppy - old towels not taken away (although new ones added), toiletries missing, one day completely skipped, other days room was cleaned around 5pm,
One positive - there's now a free shuttle to 3 beaches - Trunk, Hawksnest and Cinnamon. We had a car, so didn't use them.
As a Plat, in place of redundant benefits (free internet and gym access), i got a measly 500points (yes, once - for 8 days of resort charges). Lurkers - if you are around, please note this is beyond pathetic. Of course, they haven't posted yet, so I have to chase it up. No other Plat benefits.
Had a few other service blips - including a new guest attempting to move into our room at 11pm (with a bellman, who opened our door before I could get to it), messages left (greeting, etc) for different guests on our line, etc. I guess it falls under the "island service" heading, but still unfortunate.
Overall - St.John is sublime and it's worth tolerating Westin to be able to be there. It's better than no Starwood in this location, but next time we are more likely to rent a private villa and keep points for Asian resorts.
Happy to answer any questions.
