the idea is to not drop the card right after you get the points. if you do this enough, the credit card company may cut you off. that would be a "bad thing". If you stretch it out, you cancel _before_ the annual fee is due.
Thanks. There's some logic to that. Although I'm not sure why they view someone who keeps their account open for 11 months with no additional spend any better than the person who cancels right after making the initial required spend.
