Last summer I flew LAX-RIC-IAD (obviously unscheduled at RIC) in a 777.
Wx across the country forced us to fly South across the country and then up the east coast. When we finally got to IAD, they had shut down the airport and we circled... and circled... and circled...
Channel 9 on throughout.. so we heard the pilot's discussion w/ ATC re: lack of fuel. With "less than 20 minutes of fuel left" we diverted to RIC.
UA didn't have facilities to handle the plane, so we sat on a remote corner of the runway while we waited to refuel. We were on the ground nearly four hours because we had to wait for a truck with a ladder tall enough for folks to climb up and refuel. Apparently RIC wasn't equipped to refuel a 777!
F/As turned the galleys into an open bar.
Not a drop of liquor was left anywhere on that flight!
Captain never did turn off CH 9.
