Read the OP's post more carefully as well as wise2u's post. That is how AMEX usually handling things. It often would make up the difference between your old offer and the current offer if the current offer is better, but they would not give you a 2nd bonus on the same type of offer if you are clearly churning.
Your scenario and the one of the OP's, are 2 different scenario with some fundamental differences that many folks would not notice or gross over. Wise2u is kind enough to point out the obvious that is to some of us but not obvious to everybody.
You may want to take note that CHASE seems to have very similar practice recently.
You and Wise2u misread my message. I got the 10K point bonus in July 2009 for signing up. I put the card in my drawer after the bonus points hit my account. A full year later I reapplied for the exact same card got the 10K (first time cardholder only) plus 20K bonus points for last July's promo. I closed my card and reapplied for the same card I had about 5 days after canceling it. I had the card for a full year but didn't use it after getting the bonus. I did the same with my wife's account plus we both got the business cards with another 30K each for that. Explain how I did anything different than what the OP is saying. I got even more points than he is attempting to get.
