DTS for the FF
Don't base your decision to take this job on DTS. I am a civil service employee and have managed to make Delta Gold and AA Platinum on government travel. There are many choices you can make when planning travel that will affect which airline you will fly. Destination airports and flight dates will change the search results. Also, having status will usually eliminate baggage fees, which can be used to justify a slightly more expensive flight.
As far as hotels, you don't have to use DTS for this at all. Lodging is based on per diem rates, so any hotel that offers government rates can be used and you can make your own reservations.
My biggest beef is with rental cars. The rates are so crazy that I never know which company I will be lowest. Often it is Budget, which I can't stand, but occasionally it is Hertz. If the rate difference is small you can usually find a reason to choose the one you prefer.
Since this is a travel forum, I won't go into all the bad and good reasons to work for the government. Just don't let DTS stand in your way.
