DTS (Defense Travel System) - choosing DL

To all who use DTS (U.S. Government's Defense Travel Service), I need some feedback.

I am considering applying for a job in a civilian position.

I'm currently an employee for a private company, and my manager has always given me some leeway in choosing my flights as long as the price is reasonable. Because of that, I've been able to pick DL for most of my flights and have been either a FO or GM the past 5 years. I'm content with that.

If I were to be offered and accept this civilian position, I will have to go through DTS to book my travel. I haven't seen the nuts-and-bolts of DTS, but for those who have used it, can you tell me how easy or difficult it would be continue to choose DL on a consistent basis? I do not like the thought of having to take some random airline (US, AA, UA, etc) where I have no status.

(Mods - feel free to move to TravelBuzz if necessary)
