Their free cancellation policy is not 24 hours, but 10pm CST next day, which would be more than 24 hours if you booked in the morning.
It's similar with Delta. Their 24 hour cancellation is really until midnight the next day local time. I've had to argue about this with various CSRs in the past. Even after I read them the fineprint, they say it's only 24 hours. I just keep calling back until a find a CSR or escallate until I talk to a supervisor who actually knows the rule.
