We do have the NoS opt-out stories thread, but this one also focuses on what I was told by at clerk on 6/3 at O'Hare..
5:45am - 6/3
We had just cleared customs after our overnight flight from GRU.. Of course, security and customs in GRU was very friendly, and customs in the US was very nice. Got a "Welcome Home, Sir!" from the exit agent, when I handed in my global entry receipt..
About twenty minutes later, I get back into the line for the UA elite checkpoint in T1, and, unfortunately, discovered that the Nude-O-Scopes were running. I was traveling with my +1, so I figured I would take my time opting-out, so she could just hurry through the WTMD.. However, that is not what happened.
Just as I was putting my items through the x-ray, the TSO asks if I have anything in my pockets, and then directs me to the Nude-O-Scope (BKSX). I decline, and am made to wait for my male assist.. My +1 also is selected, and also opt's-out, so the call is made for male and female assist..
About three minutes later, screener comes over to the gate between the WTMD and NoS, and beckons me forward. FWIW, there was a giant jam of bins exiting the x-ray, so they have to wait until the screener collects my belongings, which never happened, but more on that later..
The clerk, Joseph VargXX starts to explain the pat-down to me. This is how our conversation went:
FS "Please change your gloves before you put your hands on me"
Joseph VargXX(In a rude tone)"geesh... I just put them on!"
FS "I don't care if you just put them on, I did not see you do that, and have to right to ask you to change them, so please get a new pair"..
Joseph goes off to find a new pair of gloves, but not before saying the following to the clerk groping my +1
Joseph VargXX "Keep an eye on this guy. I don't trust him"
Joseph returns and just as he is about to start the grope, says the following to me.
Joseph VargXX "People like you should not be allowed to travel"
FS "speechless"
At that moment, I realize that I should have insisted on a supervisor, but was just a bit taken back. I told Joseph,
FS "And why is that so? I have the right to opt-out."
The grope is completed, and, IMO, was the most invasive one I've ever had. He slammed his hands into my "resistance" about six times.
I asked Joseph for a comment card, which he makes up some lie about not having them.. FWIW, I saw them as I was leaving the checkpoint
Not getting anywhere with Joseph, I go ask another clerk to find me a supervisory.. My +1 is also with me, as her screener was very inappropriate, but that's another story..
I tell the three-striper:
FS "I just opted-out of the body scanner, and was told by the Joseph VargXX that I should not be allowed to travel because I asked for clean gloves and a new swab"
Fritz, Three-Striper "Which guy did you have problems with? Can you point him out to me?"
FS "He's the one on the first x-ray, in the far corner.
Fritz, Three-Striper "Oh, him, I've had problems in the past with him doing this.. I'll go talk to him"
Right here, I am very confused.. If Fritz has had problems with Joseph, then why has he not been pulled off the line, or fired? If I were the supervisor, I would have immediately pulled Joseph off the x-ray, and sent him home, without pay..
After leaving the checkpoint, I ran into a good friend in one of the RCCs that gave me a phone number for somebody in Washington. Hopefully I'll get farther than the TSA Contact Center, which promised me a call back in February
I do figure that I'll contact the ACLU, etc.. Any other suggestions? Again, I was pretty shocked by his statement, or I would have stopped the screening, and requested the FSD, UA GSC, and possibly an ORD Cop (but I'm not sure if they would be of any use).
