I've been taken to a back room, detained without counsel and physically assaulted to the point of bleeding by immigration officers who were trying to get me to admit to various untruths they believed to be fact. Apology was subsequently received, etc.. but it was a generally harrowing experience.

Won't say that it made me terrified of them (although my next couple trips back to that country did leave me a bit of a nervous wreck) but definitely wary of immigration anywhere in the world.
