You can try, but to be honest, they'll throw the conditions of carriage back at you. They aren't under much of a legal obligation to get you there at the time you booked.
I've had this happen more times than I care to think. I wouldn't hold my breath.
You can nicely explain the situation to the agent and see if they would be willing to rebook you on another airline (ie. AA through NY). If you've not left yet, then I would strongly suggest call reservations and see what they can do.
