Noch bis Mitte des Jahres werden am Hamburger Flughafen zwei der lange Zeit umstrittenen Körperscanner getestet, vom denen man sich bei optimaler Funktion eine Beschleunigung der Passagierkontrollen verspricht. Erst danach soll über eine flächendeckende Einführung auch in Berlin entschieden werden. Wegen der noch hohen Quote von Fehlalarmen muss zunächst die Software optimiert werden. Die Praxiserprobung wurde um mehrere Monate verlängert.
Die ursprünglich auf den Markt gekommenen Geräte, die auch heute noch in manchen Ländern wie den USA und Großbritannien im Einsatz stehen, sind umstritten. Entweder handelt es sich um in Deutschland verbotene Scanner, die mit Röntgenstrahlen arbeiten. Oder aber um als harmlos eingestufte Geräte, die der körpereigenen Wärmestrahlung entsprechende Millimeterwellen ausstrahlen, aber so exakte Körperbilder liefern, dass sie eine Protestwelle gegen die „Nacktscanner“ auslösten.
