I have been in the exact same position as you, but with a far different result. I was told that we could all enter, but if it became busy the guests may be asked to leave.

As it happened, we were not asked to leave, but we understood the situation and had we been asked we would not have been annoyed by the request.

They record your name upon entry, so how hard is it for them to call you to the desk and ask you to leave if it had become busy.

If I were you I would write a strong letter of complaint.
