Injury on board - how to approach BA?

My partner flew LHR-GRU two nights ago in CW. While on board, something went awry with the footrest (I'm not quite sure exactly what, because I'm in London and have only heard the story in a rushed phone call this evening), the result of which was that her foot got pinched between the footrest and the seat, and her big toe was injured.

She told an FA and asked for some ice but wasn't taken very seriously, and certainly no on-board injury form was completed. She didn't think too much of it, although she was a bit disappointed by the lack of response, and went on to her connecting flight to SCL in some moderate pain; but when she got to her hotel room in Santiago last night she discovered that the toe was bleeding. So she went to hospital this morning and, several x-rays later, found out that she had fractured her big toe. This isn't particularly desirable at the beginning of a three-week business trip when you're expecting to wear high heels throughout!

I'm not sure how one generally proceeds in these circumstances. At the very least she feels that BA should know about this. What would you do, and whom would you contact?
