At least that's not too difficult to fix. In less time than it takes to argue over what went wrong, you could put the passenger in a taxi and send them on their way.
At SFO, United's gate 73 has a nice quirk where there's one boarding door that leads to two planes. Sometimes one plane goes to LAX while another goes to ORD (about 2,000 miles apart). And occasionally, just for fun, both flights board at the same time.
