Two baggage related questions on Qantas and JetStar

First time flyer on Qantas here, would appreciate the answers to two questions.

I am about to book SYD-MEL on Qantas' website -- the Red e-deal ticket is MUCH cheaper than the next higher-priced Super Saver. When I compare the two fare classes I cannot find any obvious information about baggage. What is the checked and carry-on baggage allowance per person with this fare class; I have no status in Qantas or OneWorld.

I am also about to book MEL-CNS and the flight I want is on JetStar metal (JQ946) so the Qantas website redirects me to JetStar's site. There I am presented with a plethora of baggage options -- it looks like the default is 20 kg of checked baggage for $15. Can someone give me an idea of what that will look like in terms of number/size of suitcases. If I don't get it right, will they just charge me the few $ difference it shows on the website (25 kg takes the price up by $10) or will I get charged a higher rate at the airport. I am normally a "carry-on baggage only" kind of girl, but by then I will have been traveling for 2 weeks through China and Singapore and will have both business as well as casual attire with me. Sigh! I guess this is far more complicated than I realized.
