I had the same problem where I was told last weekend that the club would be open on Sunday afternoon on the Friday before. So Sunday I tried to enter the club and the sign posted on the door said the club will reopen on Tuesday morning and the club was being used for a private party. The front desk comp my friend and I breakfast on Monday morning and Starbucks the night before. Was that not fair compensation? I stayed at the Marriott IAD.
IMO it was fair.....personally I've never liked when the sale team approached me to rent out the lounge for a private function even on nights when the lounge was scheduled to be closed per normal business hours (ie hold an even Friday evening) - just creates a displeaser for guests that something was taken away even if it really wasn't
