+1.. I believe this is their policy as well..
If it was a reward ticket, then changes will come with a fee.. but with paid tickets, there is a 24 hour grace to get the info correct, or possibly cancel without a fee.
I wouldn't worry about the honorable part of the reservation.. If anything your brother will probably get better service because of it..
